The Electric Orkney project is led by Artemis Technologies, working alongside experts at Orkney Ferries and the European Marine Energy Centre to deploy and operate two 100% electric hydrofoiling vessels and shore-based fast charging infrastructure to play a role in decarbonising passenger transport for the communities and visitors in Orkney.

The Electric Orkney initiative is part of the UK Government-funded Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI) programme, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.

Comprehensive data collection to drive operational insights and technology adoption

As part of the project, extensive data collection and analysis will be conducted to evaluate operational performance, efficiency metrics, and overall outcomes. This critical data will validate the effectiveness of operations within the challenging Orkney environment. By demonstrating real-world success, the findings will support broader adoption of the technology and vessels in similar contexts, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and operational requirements.
